my favourite things/ O downhearted wherever you may be

I see you

I have not forgotten thee
I have remembered your children

I have seen the oppressor
and I will come
I will deliver you
restore
and bless
you

you are graven on the palms of my hand

my people

continually
before
my eyes

the oppressor will oppress no longer

I will set up my standard to the people
they shall bring thy sons in their arms
and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders

And I will save thy children
I the Lord am thy Saviour
and thy Redeemer...

O down hearted wherever you may be
I will not forget thee

Isaiah 49 tonight was such a healing~ thinking of all those who came to Ottawa to seek justice~ God has seen and He will make a way through this desert of lawlessness for you and all the children.
Faithful is He who has called us and He who will do this good thing for us.
We will bless His Holy Name

Today was an everything "apple day"

my favourite things

*Today was an everything "apple" day. the grands came over and peeled apples with my attachment on the table that turns and peels and slices with the kids' muscle power. They worked hard but did so well. We juiced apples and we made pies and apple crumbles. What was left we put in jars and canned (14 quarts).

They took home pie and juice, applesauce, cobbler and fresh gingerbread cookies. It was a good day.
Tonight, again at my late night animal check I did my little dance down the driveway, now that I have a new (year old) knee that lets me be young again. I pulled off my head lamp and popped off my hoody so I could see the night sky and had to laugh at the thought that there was our Master "Nightsky" Painter doing it again. God must have smiled at all the fun we had today because there He was dotting the sky with rows of cookies just like ours, It looked like gingerbreads and shortbreads on cookie sheets in the South sky, perfect rows of them, perfect cookie shaped dotted clouds, bright and beautiful. To the North, the Big Dipper pouring its blessing over Shoshi's home as they all lay sleeping in the calm, after the storm, nighttime. The world may be in turmoil, but for this night we have peace and health and so much love on this farm. For that I am grateful; my heart prays for the many elsewhere that struggle tonight, that God might wrap them in His peace and grace and bring them safely through.
Blessings my beloved friends and family around the world. I will not forget you. I hold you. And more... God holds you. My favourite things *22 December 2020

bamboozled by the goats

bamboozled
boozled

by the goats

I told Eduardo
drive safely
as he headed off to teach 35 km away in the city

He shouted back up the stairs
don't be bamboozled by the goats

so I googled it

bamboozled:
to deceive by underhanded methods
dupe
hoodwink
to throw off thoroughly
or completely

boozled:
to be in extreme shock or surprise

It is true
Ntomi
bamboozled me
I was totally boozled

I stood at their door
grain bucket in hand for Chamela

she is older
I called her
but she was slow
she didn't want to be
bamboozled either so she just stood there

in flew Ntomi
mature and aiming for the status
of Queen goat
She ran right into me
through me
over me
caught me off guard
innocently holding a grain bucket at their door to freedom and twelve more filled grain buckets

I grabbed her with my free hand
held on as I was knocked backwards
I wouldn't let go
but in this "I want to be Queen world"
she pushed harder
down I went

I still wouldn't let go

by now nineteen other goats decided that this door to freedom was theirs also

I was still holding on

after being slaughtered at the gate/door
nineteen heavy sharp footed beasts
having run over my splayed body
(I am still holding on to Ntomi)
I got up

chased them all back in

no small feat

I held my thumping breast
which hurt dramatically
my first thought
a heart attack
as I stood there
dusty
but strong
clutching
my chest

no
just ribs
I am sure two broken

it has been a full week
and I can breath bigger
a little
I can laugh more
sort of
and as I smile
I believe I will live
after being bamboozled
by my goats

so here I am
a gloriously sunshiny day
off to hopefully not
be bamboozled
by my goats
again

a new day

no bamboozling

I smile

I just wonder

~ I do wonder how much time we have left on this earth. I do not worry about it, I just wonder.

these are the words
of my dear Dawn
a friend I have never seen
or met in person

but I know she is there

funny thing this thing called belief

I believe she is there
but I cannot see her

I have seen photos
I have followed her blog
we have shared on Facebook
we have emailed each other
we have sent cards and gifts in the mail to each other
even her husband is my friend
I have messaged their son Harry
and their daughter Joyce
I have prayed for each of them when they were down
or sick
I have laughed with them when they have dog parties
and I am amazed how that on their part of the world they live on a street
much like the one I have walked down on my side of the world
we have had wind and snow on the same days
we do crafts and ride bicycles
our husbands are servants in church
here and there
I have wept when their pastor friend passed of covid
and when Dawn lost her mother and then her sister
I wept and prayed
I was shaken when their daughter came down with covid
then Russ
and Dawn
I was more shaken when Joyce healed
but they didn't

and then they did
Joyce tending to their needs
I was shaken again
to hear Dawn was only skin on bone
that covid had wrought damage
to her digestive system

shaken to prayer
shaken to believe
shaken to remember my love for these people I have never seen
but that I keep dear in my heart

we are all praying now
so many holding them up to the throne of Grace
sweet Jesus
where mercy is and help in time of need

Today a good report came
Russ shared:
She has seemed to be much better today.
yesterday she wrote me
I do wonder how much time we have left on this earth. I do not worry about it, I just wonder.

I know she is here

just as I know God is here

I am blessed to have seen God
been in His presence

twice I spoke so plainly with Him
Face to face

when one is dying we see Him plainly
our vision is on the heavenly
I was twelve and dying
He came for me
The Host of Heaven all bright
The Father brighter
He said I could come
or stay
I saw my dad's eyes full of fear and pain
to lose his daughter

and I said to God
I will stay
HE smiled and the Host and the Brightness faded
But I saw them come and go
and I knew
they were still there
and that dying was not sad but joyous for the one leaving

staying was for my dad and it did not make me sad to stay for him

all that glory and the rapturous joy
would wait

I know Dawn will find this same joy
on the day she leaves this world behind
but I feel Russ is like my dad
and he needs her presence here still
we all do
She is light and brightness to so many

after God said I could go
or stay
I fell back to sleep
and my fever left me

I woke refreshed
my people rejoiced
my dad smiled big

some have never seen God yet believe
God says 'more' blessed are they who have 'not' seen Him
yet believe

fear not
Jesus said
I have overcome the world

Dawn is somewhat better today
I pray for tomorrow
and the next tomorrow
and the next and on and on
until Dawn knows it is okay

because there are all sorts of her family
and friends
and us
who still need the light that she is to us
Russ needs her

Father dear Abba Father
you breathe life into all of us
thank you for healing and life
that you breathe anew each day
in our friend Dawn

we truly thank You
You our Creator God
our Redeemer God
ever with us

I wonder at Your Wonder

Our world keeps changing but He doesn't

our world keeps changing
one day all is well
we wake and all resembles
the things we always love

the sun coming through soft on my beloved's face
as we wake to the early dawn
the breeze wooing softly through the poplars
all seasons with their own song of praise
branches raised, leaves flitting
or falling or
snow covered and muted
the birds varied through the seasons
singing along
the Winter chickadees
their Spring song
the song of geese returning
the trill of the robins
the owl's night call
the ravens at play
through the day
the junco's twitting
the songs we love
children's
laughter

each day

but then something changes
to some
the one you wake up to is no longer at your side
their children weep
the little birds in your cage
take their last flight
and the years or days of their song
is played over and over in your mind
and though your heart remembers
your heart also aches to hold and see
and touch... to hear afresh the day's 'new' song
to smell the familiarity
that melts away
like the Spring snow

cat Kali
knows
she sits stretched out on my legs
taking in my sweet 'love you Kali' words
then she is up and walks over to the cage
she also misses
the familiarity
that breathed into all our days
its sweetness

now silence

the sun is filtering through the poplars
casting dancing shadows on the logs
the van is stuck in the Spring mud
the goat kids are calling
the rooster crows
my little quail is waiting for my hike down the hill
to start my day
so he can call out
hello and set my heart to dancing...

I need to remember to breathe

sometimes it hurts to breathe
but the geese are still singing their Spring song
coming home to raise families
they need my raised voice to theirs
welcoming them back
telling them to be safe
and have lots of kids.... with wings

praying we would all be strong enough
to take flight
each day
to find the miracles still left to us
to find the grace to heal
to let joy embrace us

it is not bad this last flight stuff
if only we could see where they fly

and remember to believe that He still holds them
and us
that though our world keeps changing

He still sees every bird that falls
He sees the father that left his family too early
He sees the young ones who can hardly cope
He says to them
just
b.r.e.a.t.h.e.

and He breathes His life back into ours

He gives us
hope
and faith
and love
enough to go on

new and afresh each day

when our world keeps changing

He doesn't

my favourite things/ eggs and a little girl

eggs
and a little girl

they go together
you know
like peas in a pod
ladybugs on a log
waffles
whipping cream
and maple syrup

I have two little Bobbi's
from my egg girl

they fill Bobbi's cage with song again
two parrotlets

Blue and Gas

my little egg girl
said my heart was too sad
after losing
Bobbi

so we played with Bobbi eggs
and incubated them
candled them
hid them

and found them again
and listened to the new bird songs

It was a real Easter
the eggs and birds were the treasures of new life

like
Jesus

a little girl
with a heart
filled with love

It is what Jesus gave

eggs and a little girl
Jesus
new life

We are Broken and He holds us

it was years ago
when they
would call in the night
and I would go to their bedside
and comfort them
I would be brave with them
and cry and laugh with them

I would do it again
only I would stay longer

and sing longer

and hold longer

Now they are grown
with kids of their own
who call in the night
and in the day

they hold them
they cry and laugh with them
they are brave with them

sometimes I didn't know
what the deep fears were that would wake them
sometimes they would tell me
and I would try to help them paint
a different picture in their head
in their mind's eye
in their heart

to replace the fearful one

One day when they were young
a dog had ravaged our farm while
we were driving home from holidays.

coming in to our farm we saw goats scattered and torn on the ground
the unhurt ones stuck their heads out of A-frames when they saw us and came out to be with us

we were devastated

my little four year old held my hand as we walked the hillside
the little one in my back pack looked over my shoulder

it was very quiet
and Shoshi said
as she looked up at me
Mommy
are you sad?

how do you fix hurt in a little one's brokenness
how do you fix what their little heart holds

Our beautiful Aunt Stella had left us that week
and found her Heaven home

my Shoshi had loved her
we had African violets scattered on all our windowsills
because of Aunt Stella
she was old and played the piano
she would walk slowly and carefully to the piano bench
and would take time to be seated
this amazing woman
who played church organ
and grew violets
and prayed for her son

she would then sit tall
and her fingers would come alive and dance
she could dance along that piano for a full hour
she was all life

so when she died
my kids were sad
and I knew we had to paint a new picture in their mind's eye

In heaven she had a hillside pasture
in the radiant sunshine
and
she had her grand piano
and was no longer tired
and weak

her whole being danced with that grand piano
and the flowers bloomed on that lush green hillside with her

Shoshanna wanted to paint another picture
to change the goat sadness

so we put all our baby goats
six of them
and one mama
we put them all on that hillside with dear Aunt Stella
while she played
they ran and jumped
some up on that heavenly piano
she was laughing and playing
and there was just so much joy

now every time we remember that day
and the sadness
we have a new painting in our mind's eye
and we can smile
and see the beauty
and laugh joyously together

we know that one day
we will be there too
then all the sadness will be gone

I would like to go back
and hold them longer
sit with them and just listen longer
and really hear what their little hearts
are saying

I want them to know
they are everything to me
that I will always be there for them

now they are grown
with kids of their own

I get to hold them
these new little ones

they don't always want to be held
but in my heart I hold them tight

I must also release them to the Lord
as I did mine
because I know some things hurt too much to even tell mommy

and I know He holds them

He will sing to them
and laugh and weep with them
and heal them

we are all broken somehow
and He holds us

that is the picture I will paint with my little ones
in our mind's eye
in our heart

we were broken
but now
we are all together running in the green meadows
all laughing together
the flowers are beautiful and the music is sweet

and He holds us

all the stars in the sky

the stars
are my friends

on dark sky nights
they brighten the snow for me
while the moon overhead
shines with them

I need only lift my eyes
to see the story they will tell
--------------------

in the daytime
I lift my eyes to the hills
I catch the sun playing upon the poplars and birch
scattered over pine and spruce
little dancing sunbeams
awakening something within me
attuned to joy
making my steps light
as baa and neigh sounds
call me to hurry up
and drop some hay

at night
I leave the warmth of
our home...
Eduardo...
games of round rummy...
and Kali cat
who prefers the curling up on a lap
and soft caresses

I head out
and before I can close the door
I catch the song of my quail
my little feathered
watchdog
of the night
always singing to me

the night air quickens me
this coldness some nights bring
that can make my eyelashes stick together

I listen for Mr Owl's
who whoos
from the lone cottonwood far across the field
we are parrots
the two of us
and we play
our game
often

now watching where to put my old weathered feet
the 65 years of walking and cajoling
they have done
I head down our steep hill
taking deep breaths
energy bursting in and out
and I always giggle at the
amazingness of it

I love the snow's soft cushioning
and sometimes it's ice
do I squish
or slide?

checking Shoshi's firebox
I leave smelling like
a Christmas fir tree
and it makes
my nose happy

I drop hay
to all the critters
their complaining changing to sighs
and soft munchings

I close my eyes
and sit on my ageless old ladder
sighing big
for all this fineness
for all the healing
this day has been

Willow dog
sits at my side
I notice she sighs too

Emmanuel
God with us

us restored

walking home
is easier
milk bucket in hand
work done
snow scooped
manure moved
water given
animals content

I put down my bucket

do my swirl around...

this 65 year old weathered dance of ours

the Night and Day Maker
and me

This One who lightens the heart of everyone
Our
Redeemer
He who formed us from the womb:
He says
"I am Yahweh,
who makes all things;
who alone stretches out the heavens;
who spreads out the earth by Myself."

looking up my heart is light as I find all my familiar star friends
the Big Dipper spilling out as usual all its fullness upon Shoshi's home
her and the kidlets asleep
I follow to the North Star
then the Little Dipper
my eyes find the group clustered like the moles on my arm
small and squished together
I don't know all their real names
the ones God gave when He alone
placed them where they are
but I know God knows

He shows me
my favourite three

the ones spread in a line
like three kings
and this night they are just above
our home

asking if the King is in

will He find room
In this Inn

my soul sings out to Him
this One who quickens us
that we might be one with Him
and the Father

I know He prays for us
that we might also be one
with each other

His children
as many as

sunsets and sunrises

everyone is watching sunsets
and sunrises

the photos are glorious
all pink and softness
wrapped around all our snowflakes
lying deep on the frozen earth
moments of brightness
that makes one
catch
their
breath

it doesn't seem as if winter has been so long
and now the days are lengthening
we are not asleep
when the sun rises
and sets

It is joyous
this sharing
that lightens our hearts
colours of warmth
that spark our spirits
and awakens us
each one to share with their neighbour
the beauty they caught
as they looked out a window
or took a walk
or were off on horseback

It is joyous
this waking
from
winter's
slumber

and then I remember
we still have three months

and that can stretch to six
before snow melts
and green grass
meets our smiles
and gives us
as much joy as
sunrises
and
sunsets

and God will wrap that around our hearts
and everyone will post pictures
of new calves
and baby goats
crocuses
and kids
running barefoot

and we will laugh together
this sharing of
hearts
too full
with the beauty

it will spill from
one heart to
another

from God's
heart

to ours

we will call it Spring

uncovered dreams

we uncovered a dream today
for my granddaughter

and at the same time
I shared how we had
uncovered my dream
a hard one

every night in my new house
and in my next new house
I had a dream

in it there was always a big furniture truck
with the tarps swinging from the back of it
it would careen down the driveway
chasing me
it would be able to fly
over the roof of our house
and always two very angry men
would get out and chase me
I would run but my legs would become rubber
and wouldn't hold me
and just as I would get to my door
and hold the doorknob
they would reach for me

and I would wake
_______________________

It was at ladies' tea
visiting with Gwen
we were in our 64th year
the each of us

we were colouring and chatting
just reminiscing
when I remembered and laughed
______________________

I was six

we had a beautiful
Chevrolet 1957 Bel Air
with pointed tail lights
turquoise and white
I rode in it proud

my mom would take us shopping
I would sit in the back with my brothers

but one day
it was just

me and mom
I was in the front seat

she parked outside a store
on a steep city street
she said she would be just a moment
don't touch anything

she pointed to the steering wheel with her eyes
I looked at it and nodded

my mom was beautiful
she dressed French
with lines down the back of her dark stockings
and soft leather shoes
with a lovely hole in the toes
where her toes
would show through

she was slender and had on her
tailored suit
her dark hair curled and held back like a crown
her bright red lipstick painted perfectly
her nails polished

she was perfect

I could see her in the store
with the large storefront window
between her and me

I looked at the steering wheel
and pushed something

the car rolled down past my mom as she looked at me from the window

there was a furniture truck parked at the next store down
I saw two men holding a chesterfield
on the ramp of the truck

they saw me coming
fast

the beautiful turquoise Chevrolet
went up the truck ramp
I don't remember what the men did
but I remember being
in the back of their truck
I saw their faces
and heard their shouting

the cloth that hung from the back of the truck
stayed clear in my mind

and I guess the screaming men
stayed clear in my mind too

that is all I remembered
that and hearing my dad ask my mom
that evening when he came home from work

what was she thinking

leaving me in the car alone

he never gave me heck
I didn't get a spanking
but our beautiful turquoise car
never came home again
_______________

and I had a dream every night
in each new home we moved to
the truck could still fly

my legs always turned to rubber
I was always afraid

and now I laugh

I remember how it must have been
them screaming to know if I was alright
this little skinny girl of six
pretty blonde hair
and frightened blue eyes
and no words
stuck in a car
in the back of their truck

memories
and smiling now

my favourite things/a rainbow straight up

all day God painted the sky different

a pallet of black and white

then blue grey deep on the horizon

and then came the rain
the wind bowed the trees

then all was still

playing round rummy with dad
I watched the 3:30 sun
lower itself on the horizon
and knew I must run to the other windows
to see the sunset's reflection

rewarded I was
with this quickness of thought

it has happened before
the surprise of God's palette
and today
January 2
hosted
a pure delight

a rainbow
triple thickness
shot straight up

the storm
gone ahead
leaving us with the light
and the promise
it is well

I had to call Shoshi
to look
even if her trees were in the way
the promise
was
still
there

God's promises
faithful and true

always nice
this walking home with dad

long steps

arms linked

looking up together  to find the moon
safe in a soft ring of life
a circle of life
extended
reaching to the trees in the East
and over to the trees in the West

sealed
never ending
a soft haze but certain
bathing the moon
in the new year
2021

it was midnight
Dad went in
Shoshi and the kids already asleep

head down I gave the hay
spilled water in all the bowls
for the goats
slid the dogs away
for the night

then looked up

cotton balls filled where the ring had been
an entire ocean of cotton balls
circling the moon
clothing it for the new year
bright and cheery
cotton puffs
floating where the bare ring had once been
its soft glow no longer naked

a moment earlier
the sky was boldly bare
but for the moon within the ring

now brightly adorned with
puffs of the Heavenly
clothed in a certain
Humility
bathed in a lovely Grace
bright with Hope

was
God's

night moons with rainbows/my favourite things

I am back
to my
night
watches

or perhaps
they have never ended

the moon has danced
with me
last night a rainbow circled it
and set the mood merry
the clouds swept lazily
along
with us
and the owls came back
to whooo whoo

my smile is still with me today
and I had to say
I have
just
too many
favourite things
everyday
waiting to be told
and I don't think
that anything
should
keep me
from
saying it

so busyness
aside
and storm threats away
I will let the rainbows in
with their smiles
and brightness
on my path
to lead me
along
my
way

by day
it is snowman building
with precious
grand kids

and
soon
goat kids
are coming

night watches
night moons
with rainbows

my favourite things/ my goats call me

my goats call me
from the moment they hear me
come out of the house
until I squeak my bicycle's brakes
at the garden gate

they call me
they wait at the gate
for their goatherder
this old goat lady
three carloads of kids and adults
unpacked themselves as I came to do afternoon chores
instead I let out all the mamas and babas
from their stalls into the running area
and we all played
the children had no questions
they simply picked up day old babas and week old ones
and snuggled and cooed sweet babblings
that the beastlies immediately understood
to be love and joy and peace
the adults asked questions
and more and more
questions
but never once stooped to feel their softness
or smell their newness
or listen to their sweet murmurings
they missed the dancing on goat wings
the little ones sucking
they missed
the soft breeze come in
to refresh
and
renew
they missed the sighs
from children
and kids
I don't think they heard the laughter
It took a long time before anyone noticed
the quiet joy
of each child
mesmerized
rallying in their own little world
of peace and bliss
a kid
with a kid
and then they saw it
and were drawn in
and became part of the fun
and laughed with the children
and stooped to know
the precious babas
this old goat lady
watched with joy
quiet splendor
as the families
became playmates
and laughter was the bond
and love the strong chord
that joined them
this is how God works in the hearts of his children
all around are His signs and wonders
the bird song and new Spring life
and though we busy ourselves with our own
understandings and misunderstandings
at last
we do see the sunrise
or the sunset
or the child He has lent us for a season
and we will play in the beauty of this gift
He has sent us
our laughter
becomes praise
to Him
like this old goat lady
He looks on with joy
that they noticed
His love
gift
He is already planning their tomorrow
and He smiles

my favourite things/ Mr Snowman

                                             Photos by Beth Lynn

the packages arrived
today
over the mountains
across the prairies
to Springtime
springing
water runoff perfect for a five year old
to ride bikes through
a trampoline perfect to count rocks on
for a wee girl

snow giving way
to green grass
and puddles
treasures
that lay hidden
a whole
entire
winter

today
Mr Snowman
arrived in the mail

you build him and then he melts
you build him again
and watch him
melt
all over again

it is Spring after all

and the giggles
and happiness
of mama hearts
watching little ones find simple joys
is enough

my favourite things/ trusting

this majestic puppy
visited a porcupine today
I'm certain she was surprised

perhaps it was the first time
something ever turned on her
this friendly
still puppyish hound
always
greeting the world around her
with great
enthusiasm

she
surely
had no
enthusiasm
when she
returned home
this morning

Eddie was fine
perhaps he saw what had happened to Willow
and decided a distance between him and the prickly friend was a fine thing
or perhaps
he is just
a wee bit
wiser
in life
having been around
loads of years
more

never once did Willow try to bite me

I pulled the needles out one by one
and after two hours
I finally thought to calf tie her legs
and put a horse blanket over her
I held her firmly but gently
while I sat on her
and with encouraging words
took only seconds more
to remove the last needles
stuck deeply
in her
chin

all out at last

there was no
biting me

just kisses and puppy romping

puppy slobber
and more
kisses

This was my gift for hurting her with each needle out

she let me do it

I wish I could be such malleable clay in the Master's hands
His gentle gracious hands
He knows best

I know He loves me
I want to trust Him
like Willow trusted me

He knows best

my favourite things/amazing grace stories

amazing
this grace

but today I heard it differently

it was a sermon
at the Army church

after a weekend of learning together
the students performed for us
their giftings varied
and finely honed

and from Toronto
a speaker talked of
all the 'amazing grace stories'
filling our sanctuary

and I  thought for a moment of heaven
and how eternity would be filled with 'amazing grace stories'
all of us laying down our crowns for the One
the One...
the One worthy of these amazing grace stories
and I wept for the joy of it
how comforted He will be one day
to know we count Him worthy
of this honour

we will never tire of  hearing
the stories
from each soldier
each child
each one known
before conception
by the One
who so freely
bestowed
on us
this
amazing
grace

For Him it was costly
more than we will ever understand

but
joy will
be His
on the day
we all
recollect to the Father
our
'amazing grace stories'

I long to see His face

my favourite things/ that tree

I caught a glimpse of that tree tonight
Dear Lord
walking out
into the night
I caught its darkness
and why You said not to eat of it

You
Dear One
Who formed us

You Abba Father
Holy One
Who knew we were but dust
until You breathed
Life into us

You knew

You knew we could not bear the knowledge
of such evil
You knew it would consume us
break us
and leave us
lifeless

You knew we could not grasp the fullness
of Your goodness

so You came
to show us

we still couldn't
comprehend

so you had to die
to help our hearts see

and now by Your Spirit
poured out to us

and with
Refiners Fire

this dust is being made pure gold

now we have a hope that is not ashamed

our eyes can see something new

a tree

but of Life
and we
may
eat
of
it

Abba Father

it
will
be
the
healing
of
the
nations

that
tree
Dear Lord

my favourite things/ green granny smith apples

my favourite things

He visited us today

The old woman walked right to us
though her zig zagging gait suggested
she'd had too much to drink
her plastic bottle empty
swaying in her hand
we all gazed at her steadfastness
to join our picnic celebrating

our blankets spread
on the velvety grass
the children celebrating a tenth birthday
fruit trays and veggies
finger food banquet arranged in its fullness

we all held our breaths
waiting

she spoke

do you have some water
its my heart
and the water helps

water

water

of course we had water

I reached one cool bottle to the children
to pass on to her
almost too eagerly
grateful she did not seek to spoil the children's fun
or take from their "abundance"

what heart is mine
I thought
O Lord, forgive me
I thought
I must give her more

we have so much

she gently folded her hands under her chin
gave Thanks
to the Eternal One
for the water
for us
our
kindness

then walked on

wavering still
but kindly
and with a grace
as she passed by
we could see
in her coat pocket
bulging
a perfect specimen
of a green
granny
smith
apple

I smiled thinking
an apple was also good for her heart
and it reminded me of the Garden
the fruit on that tree
and how even there
God's grace found us

I wanted to give her a veggie plate
Shoshanna wanted to give her a strawberry tray
Everyone wanted to give her more

but we each said nothing out loud
about it
and
we did nothing

we wanted to
but
she left so quickly

all we did was kindly return the blessing
she so graciously left for us
as she walked on

later the children found her sleeping
not far from us
peacefully

-------------------------
we are home now
and at the evening table we shared how we all wanted to give more
but she was so content
with the water
and we were frozen in time and could not move
though our hearts wished to

it was just a cup of cold water
-------------
tonight after all were settled
I did my last watch of the night

out into the dusk I went
dogs at my side
the goats and horses happy for
the evening meal
new kids put safely away
water taken around

and there arms raised to the Eternal One
with the night sky swathed in softness
He met me and touched me
I communed and rested and prayed
and praised and trusted
and waited
so long
I stood
His breath mine
His healing mine
my heart His to reshape
renew

I turned and there sitting poised and tall behind me was my Willow dog
eyes on me
and more
she had my back
she was so stoically calm
and still
waiting
so close

and I am thinking how sometimes the animals see God and angels more easily than we do

they seem to know if we entertain angels unawares

green granny smith apples
faithful guardian dogs
angels in old women disguise
birthday celebrations
little happy hearts
His Word that reminds us
He is with us

And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’…(Mathew 25:39)

my favourite things: a sharing from: Positively Loved and Adored: Today marks 6 months since we arrived back in Cana...

my favourite things ~ seeing the heart of our children

a joy
this growing old
the witnessing
and sharing of days
and moments
in our loved ones lives

a joy
this passing of time
days blended
one into another
little footsteps
becoming
men and women
before ones eyes
and all the love
entangled
that makes
it possible
to
grow
old
joyously

entangled in God's grace
His tender mercies
new
every
morning

this growing old
this seeing the heart of our children
