my favourite things/ golden sun -32C

We are in a valley
the winds
arrested in the trees
beyond our land
the sun golden
and warming
though the weatherman
says -32C
and our
thermometer
confirms -35 C
before the sunrise
this morning

It is my dad's birthday today
He would be 100 years old on this fine and golden day

we spent many a day like this
together through the years

my smile is big
to be so loved
my prayer for each child
as I begin this day

I wait until the sun shows her face
to go out with warm water
and to give out the sweet hay
they won't want to wander
from cuddles warmth
and chewing cuds
until the brightness warms them

This morning it was hats and scarves
wool sweaters and hoodies and over-jacket
hats all velcroed in place
ski pants and muck boots
good to -25C
I've tested them colder
and am always toasty toed

I let the dogs out
from their guarding
the goats all night

they run and scoop up snow
in their mouths
and roll in the fresh powder
then are off to their game of chase
and check the trails
How does an animal
keep warm in these elements
and smile?

just two days ago we skied together
my man and the dogs
with me
our joy full

now it is
back to the home fires
an extra log in the big furnace
snuggle kitty time

and back to drawing
study God's Word
read my friends' wonderful blogs
learn my concert songs/ alto
Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus

Hail
true Body
born of the Virgin Mary
Who truly suffered
sacrificed
on the cross for man

Whose pierced side overflowed
with water
and blood
be for us a foretaste
in the test of death

and
MacGillivray's
Here's to Song

Kings have riches widely lain
lords have land but then again
we have friends and song no wealth can buy...

I love these days that keep me in
once chores outside are complete
animals content
and all seems well
though the mercury says
... it's cold!

so we play
the animals and I do

then it is in for a warm reprieve

until afternoon
before the warm sun goes down
and we do it all again

God Gift days
my dad's 100th birthday
golden days

  1. I am loving your blog so very much! You certainly have more winter than we do. Our little bit of snow is gone, and I heard it may get into the 50's F. Nuts! I love to cross country ski, and I can't here(yet). I tried last week when we got about 5 inches, and the previous rain made the top snow stick to my skis. Oh well.
Loved hearing about your fav things and your day...

    1. I love the snow! My daughter in South Africa had +30C for our - 30C. What a contrast... her a pool dunk and us snow angels!
We do have wonderful winters here and you learn to prepare for them.

    1. Andrea... this was a big step in faith to sing... I was invited into something my heart has always longed to do but was too scared in the past to do. Everyday more and more I am learning that God's perfect love casts out all fear. Oh His marvelous gifts for us that money can't buy!

  4. Dear Susan,

I was feeling very sad and I thought, "Enough of this, I am going to visit my sisters in the Lord.." and so here I am (with Sebastian between me and the keyboard). I went slowly throughout your day, savoring each word and scrutinizing each picture. How wonderful the animals, the skiing, the "faces" at the barn entrance, then inside one can feel the thaw and the snuggly warmth. I appreciate your singing and know how much that can bless. Having a picture of the music made me feel like I was right there.

I can't even imagine -32 degrees celsius, we barely get in the negative degrees in fehrenheit so this is COLD! I'm happy you have found the ways to be warm throughout it all.

    Love you,
    Dawn

    1. Dawn... funny you say you have been sad... my spirit has felt your heaviness, in fact, I have been sad with you! Enough of this!(though it is good to weep with those who weep) I am going to rejoice specifically for God's good gifts to you... all day! Jesus, thank you for the blessing you have for Dawn even today! This is the day You have made... we will rejoice and be glad in it! Every little bit of it!
Joy and peace to you my friend. May all your problems be dissolved in His joy today... hugs and His abiding Grace
      Susan

    1. thank you for your 'Bee well' :)
I was wondering where that little church is that graces the top of your blog? I have a tenderness in my heart for all these little old places of worship...by the way it is a beauty of a photo! I can imagine coming across the fields to gather there and to be outside hearing all the praise and worship while the wind blows through the grasses... I liked the thought :)
