my favourite things/He goes before us

~In preparation of Lent

“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?

Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

~Isa. 58:3-8

  1. So meaningful . . . I anticipate how He will reveal Himself to me during this Lent season. I'm listening and watching! I'm so thankful He goes before me . . . He leads . . .

  2. Dear Susan,

    I LOVE Isaiah 58. I can just smell the bread. Ah, and the sweet fragrance of His presence in your home.

    Hugs this Ash Wednesday,

    1. While I was in Mexico, 37 years ago, the young children who adopted me the first day I arrived at the school, took me into the Village, San Antonio church, proceeded to pull me down the aisle and the priest put an ashen cross on my forehead... I have never felt so much a part of the community of believers in Christ before than at this moment. Through the day as the wind would blow my hair off my face I could feel the touch of the ashes, as if Christ was especially near, and I couldn't help but remember all that he had done for me...
      it took little children and their simple faith to bring me close to their ways of worship and to see that the kingdom of God is made of such as these little ones. A dusty street, dusty barefooted children, a gringa... an understanding priest smiling big and with a huge heart... a dish of ashes.

  3. Hi There, Thanks for visiting my blog. Please come back anytime.. I do not 'give up' anything for Lent--but choose instead to ADD something that I need to be doing during Lent... My personal additions are:
    -Contact some long-lost friends I haven't talked to in a long time;
    -Send a weekly email to all three of my adult sons; I 'try' to keep up with their busy lives --but sometimes it gets hard. I need to try harder!!!
    -I want to take more time to visit the shut-ins and elderly in nursing homes in my community...

    This is what I do during Lent....
    Hugs,
    Betsy
    PLEASE take OFF your Word Verification. I cannot read it and will not make comments on blogs which still have it. Thanks so much.

    1. Betsy, I hope I fixed the word verification for you... I also have trouble reading many of them. I love how you have looked for ways to bless through this Lent season. Kind of like Isaiah 53 was emphasizing... love it! I will be adding on too... I so want to bless through each day God gifts me with! Maybe someone somewhere will see how much God loves them and will trust Him more fully.

  4. This is my favorite season. Lamb of God who DID go before us, to lead us, our King, by example.

  7. Love the scripture, love the photos . . . my question is about the flowers. They look like wildflowers gathered in summer, but it is clearly winter right now. They look so lovely in that pitcher. Are these loaves of bread just made for lent now, or is the photo from your archives? Your kitchen is so inviting and warm.

    1. Ha! Very definitely from last summer! The thermometer on the tree behind the flowers would read a marvelous 26C ~ a marvelous day for a swim in the Willow! And I know the kids were home as the bread is not so full of grains as usual...
