we had a cooling rain
tonight
refreshing
the garden happy
seeds sprouting
my heart singing
all was quiet walking home
two full milk buckets
in hand
Sam and Blue dogs quiet
the goats settled in and quiet
the horses sheltered and fed
quiet
the song of the robins silent
while they sleep
yesterdays showing off their young
all done
fledgling celebration
done
young sheltered and settled for the night
the hoot owls quiet
the train quiet
the coyotes and wolves silent
the cloud cover was embracing
a deep breath
arms stretched to the heavens
another breath
long and slow
prayers lifted to the Keeper
my heart quieted
in the damp thickness of the air
there just wasn't a lot to see
night settled snug around me
~when there it was
the dance of the fireflies had begun
little sparks in the night
they celebrate the King
and His keeping us well
though the storms rage around us
He is there to bring us through it
and like the little fireflies
He shines His light for us to see
He leads the way
out of the storm
and always
Home
some go early
others
watch
the dance of the
fireflies
fireflies in the night
my favourite things
"the dance of the fireflies" - how that phrase delights me. :-) xo
ReplyDeletenow it is morning my Rambling Tart, and I have a hot cuppa milk and fresh coffee in hand thinking of your enticing coffee photos of yesterday... I know you dance with your Australian beauties there through the hours of the night and day. Maybe Bear dances with you...or does he sleep soundly like mine :)(we call him Papa Bear)
Deleteoh-I don't have words-I can't express how your poems touch my heart. But they do. I feel like I was there walking with you. SO very beautiful....I always think if anyone ever needed 'proof' that God exists-fireflies would do it.
ReplyDeleteDebra, I love that you come walk the late hours with me...the fireflies were a surprise gift from our Father's good hand. I still smile to think of them :)
DeleteAs always, your words open me to seeing clearer, hearing sharper, deeper moments of wonder and awe.

DeleteEach night when I leave the Information Referral Center where I work I am amazed at what the Lord has for me when I step out into the night air. Sometimes pictures in the night sky, mists swirling at my feet, peepers chirping, or a rabbit wriggling its nose. And the change of seasons brings even more diversity. It makes me sing. I truly understand this feeling of praise in the night.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite line? "my heart quieted" After you list all those tucked in for the night, you quiet, too. Magnificent!
a question Dawn... what does your sky look like most nights at 11:30
Deletejust wondering...
if we have no storm it is still daytime blue...
I love seeing the fireflies too. But seeing them through your eyes and heart blessed me even more! Thank you so much for sharing your favorite things! :) - deb
